What can you do for seasonal depression?

Ever wonder why your mood gets so low when you’re sick? “Sickness behaviors” are the fatigue, loss of interest, brain fog, low mood, and social withdrawal that happen when your body is fighting an infection. They look a lot like depression—but they’re actually caused by inflammatory cytokines signaling you to rest and recover.

If you feel emotionally low while you’re sick, it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re sliding into a depressive episode—your body may just be in healing mode.

That said, if those symptoms linger or show up outside of being ill, it’s worth checking in with a professional.
